Collector’s Shelf: Leon White (1860-1914)

Hen Widgeon

Hen Widgeon

Leon White was born and raised in the Currituck Inlet area of NC South of Wash Woods. Leon and his wife Maggie had fifteen children.Leon ran the Currituck Inlet Club, owned by his family for almost eighty years. His wooden widgeon decoys have a very attractive style. The bodies of the decoys are short and thick with flat bottoms. The decoy bodies are approximately 1012 inches long with a height of 4 to 5 inches giving them a tall appearance. The heads of the decoys taper in at the neck and the bills point straight forward. Upholstery tacks were used for the eyes. These decoys are very hard to find and are nice additions to any decoy collections.
