Gingerbread Extravaganza

Gingberbread House Contest

By martha davenport

It’s November and the Inaugural Gingerbread Extravaganza is underway. What exactly is a Gingerbread Extravaganza? That is a very good question. It is a new contest to challenge your ability to bake, build and decorate a gingerbread house to be displayed in the Atlantic Wildfowl Heritage Museum for the Holidays.

In order to participate in this years event you must register before 5:00pm, Monday, November 15, 2021 at thedewittcottage@gmail.com or director@atwildfowl.org or by calling the de Witt Cottage at (757) 437-8432. You can accept this challenge by yourself or form a team with neighbors, friends, or co-workers. The contest is also open to bakeries, commercial kitchens, restaurants, and culinary school programs. It is a chance to be recognized for a unique and delicate skill!

The finished projects will be delivered to The deWitt Cottage between November 16th and 18th and will be displayed to the public November 20, 2021 until December 12, 2021. Cash prizes will be awarded in each of the following categories: Peoples Choice, most creative building material, best attention to detail, and most whimsical. All of the rules can be found at: Gingerbread House Contest & Exhibit – The Historic de Witt Cottage.
