The Back Bay Wildfowl Guild
has produced the Virginia Beach Wildlife Festival and Mid-Atlantic Carving
Competition for more than 27 years. Our show is a participating member of the
International Wildfowl Carving Association and observes IWCA rules and procedures.
We urge all

competition.

GENERAL RULES FOR THE
WILDFOWL
CARVING COMPETITION
1. There are three
competition levels:
A.
Open
B.
Intermediate
C.
Novice
2. All entries must be
owned by the participating carver and can be entered
in any one show–one time only.
3. All entries must be
handmade of wood, cork, or stretched canvas. Entries
carved from machine made
blanks will be disqualified.
4. The number of entries
will be unlimited. First entry for Novice and
Intermediate
is $15; $5 for each additional entry to a maximum of $30.
Entries
for Open level and all contests where competition levels do not
apply, IWCA Style Hunting Decoys for example, first
entry is $25; $5 for
each additional entry to a maximum of $50.
5. Entry registration 8:00
PM to 10:00 PM Friday, October 5; 8:00 AM to
10:00
AM Saturday, October 6.
6. Mail-in entries must
arrive by Thursday, October 4. Entries must be
shipped prepaid and contestant must furnish return
shipping costs and
insurance if desired–specify amount. Acceptable payment is a
personal
check or money order made payable to VIRGINIA BEACH
WILDLIFE
FESTIVAL. Entries will be repacked with care in original
boxes by
experienced individuals and shipped back to carvers the
following week
by commercial carrier. Mail in entries should be
addressed to:

7. Each mailed entry must
be tagged with the carver's name, address, and
phone number along with level and division entered.
Please include a
completed entry form and a check covering entry fee, return shipping,
and insurance.
8. The
for the loss, damage, or theft of any entry.
9. Judging will begin on
Saturday, October 6 at 10:00 AM. Any additional
judging time required will begin Sunday, October 7 at
10:00 AM.
10. All entries must remain on
display until 4:00 PM on Sunday,
October
7. Carvers
agree, by placing their birds in competition, should
any emergency arise that requires them to leave before
4:00 PM on
Sunday,
to leave carvings on display and have them packed and shipped
back to them by Competition Chairman Lynn Hightower
11. After judging is
complete and awards made, carvers may place identifying
cards on their entries for commercial purposes.
12. Any objections to the
competition proceedings should be addressed to the
competition committee chairman, Lynn Hightower, immediately. The
chairman will settle any disputes and rule interpretations.
His decision
will be final.
13. Rule clarifications and

CARVING DIVISIONS
Judging for all classes
will be governed by the 2007 version of the
INTERNATIONAL WILDFOWL
CARVING ASSOCIATION rules and
regulations. There will be seven
carving divisions:
A.
IWCA Style Hunting Decoy (no carving level) $25.00 for first entry
B.
IWCA Working Decoy (no carving level) $25.00 for first entry
C.
IWCA Canvas Decoy (no carving level) $25.00 for first entry
D.
IWCA Gunning Shore Bird (no carving level) $25.00 for first entry
E.
Decorative Lifesize Wildfowl Non-Floating (Open, Intermediate, Novice)
F.
Decorative Miniature Wildfowl (Open, Intermediate, Novice)
